(a) Orpheus (inscribed), seated on a rock, with a Thracian wearing a black tunic and standing beside his horse, (b) draped woman between draped youth and bearded man.
The treatment of the horse is in the Penthesilean tradition (cf. with the cup Ferrara T. 18 =ARV² 882, 35; also with BM. E 280 by Polygotnos =ARV2 1030,35 and especially with Ferrara T. 203 by the Eupolis Painter = AR V2 1073, 7).
The Thracian's black tunic may be compared with the black cuirass of the charioteer on Ruvo 1088 (no. 2/23 below), Attic parallels to which will be found on Ferrara T. 579 and Bologna 289 (AR V2 612, I and p. 891).
